The Ta Dzong

A five storey high cylindrical structure, the Ta Dzong was built by Chogyal Minjur Tempa in the mid 17th century under the order and name of Zhabdrung Ngawang Namgyal. After due maintenance and resurrection, today this dzong is a great museum and is a blend of fascinating Bhutanese architecture and modernity. There are many pieces of interest that include the self-sculpted bronze image of Pema Lingpa This museum also showcases Bhutanese history through the centuries old dance costumes, textiles, prayer books and paintings.

This dzong is home to Gyaltsab Buddha and you can find a couple of yogis who are meditating for life in addition to a few hermits. The restoration of this structure was undertaken to pay tributes to the present monarchy celebrating a centenary.

The Trongsa Dzong

Built around 1650, this dzong is the epitome of Bhutanese dzong architecture and towers over its neighbours. This is the ancient seat of monarchy and it shows in its over-bearing sculpture. The dzong is more of a fortress protected on all sides by valleys.

The insides of the dzong are huge and is a complex of many offices, courts and temples. It is built on a cliff-side and has many levels and also looks like an impregnable fortress.
